Mahurangi Hope Church community, we invite you to consider leaving a Legacy in your Will to the work of Christ.

All bequests make a significant difference to the long-term work of Mahurangi Hope Church. Your gift will carry on caring for future generations well beyond a lifetime.

From personal experience

Long-time Mahurangi Hope Church members Reg and Jan West have seen the power of Legacy Giving before they had even given their own.

In 2005, their son Richard was on a flight to a remote village in Papau New Guinea as a co-pilot with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). Sadly, the plane he was flying in didn’t make the runway in difficult conditions, and endured a terrible crash. Both he and his fellow pilot died at the scene. Eleven passengers walked away unharmed.

The absolute tragedy revealed the true extent of the impact MAF had in the villages as Reg and Jan visited in days following the accident. Entire villages were at a standstill with schools closed, work halted and cooking fires put out as a time of mourning. “We went from village to village over three days and people would come out to greet us with their faces covered in mud, except two lines running down their cheeks where their tears had washed it away. The impact my son and MAF had on those communities really struck us,” Reg says.

So in the coming weeks when Reg and Jan inherited a significant amount through the passing of his parents, they felt a strong conviction from God to start a memorial trust in Richard’s honour.

The Richard West Memorial Trust was born to help finance anyone training who had been accepted to become a MAF pilot who was struggling to fund their endeavours.

“While I still don’t feel like God has answered my ‘why?’ as to Richard’s passing, I can see God had a way of turning the tragedy into something significant and lasting. Richard’s work will carry on,” Reg says.

Reg and Jan have seen first-hand how Legacy Giving can have an incredible ability to multiply the work of God beyond someone’s lifetime.

Both he and Jan decided to divide their eventual residual estate between the families of their three children and the remaining quarter in their Wills to be given to MAF and Mahurangi Hope Church.

“We’ve done it in acknowledgement of God’s work in our lives. We want to honour Him with our finances and all that we have. When we look back at our lifetimes we are so grateful He has always met all our needs and provided for us. We want to offer our wealth as thanksgiving to Him.”

Proverbs 3:9 – "Honour the Lord with your wealth."

Different ways to give

There are many ways you can tailor a bequest to suit your personal circumstances. It is important to discuss options and specific wording with your legal advisor to make sure your Will reflects your wishes clearly. Your wishes may even include non-cash items such as collections or property – you can read more below on various options.

Our promise in return: Whatever you choose to give, Mahurangi Hope Church promises to use all gifts to further the work of Christ in the local church, community and wider nations.
